Mosaic Artist DVD Review: Monumental Mosaics: The Isaiah Zagar Method
This DVD was made last year, but I have only discovered it and it is very fascinating in a number of ways. Isaiah formally studied painting , and I think this has aided him to improvise and create new or non-traditional ways of working in mosaics and pigments. His style is is free and his background as a painter shows through his art. Like many mosaicists, including myself, he confesses to evolving in the direction of mosaics. He is happy to work in 3D with slabs of cement and this is another facet of his free flowing style. He has an interesting theory on reflection through mirrors, but you will have to get the DVD to find out more. I like his direction - he impressed me with a maverick attitude, and the changing and aging of the art form.
This is the first DVD review-next is Oliver Budd, coming soon.
